About This Vineyard

Established by Phillip Jones in 1979, the vineyards are located at Leongatha in the most southern part of Victoria, Australia, not far from Phillip Island and Wilson’s Promontary. Named after early explorers of the region, George Bass and Arthur Phillip, Bass Phillip is located not far from the sea, but far enough inland to experience a continental climate ideal for grape growing.

It is here that Phillip Jones has been producing his Australian Pinot Noir icon, a unique expression of the land for 22 years. ‘Make no mistake about it…these are brilliant Pinot Noirs, undoubtedly the finest being produced in Australia.’ Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate. Phillip

‘Jones has retired from the Melbourne rat-race to handcraft tiny quantities of superlative Pinot Noir which, at its best, has no equal in Australia. Painstaking site selection, ultra-close vine spacing and the very, very cool climate of South Gippsland are the keys to the magic of Bass Phillip and its eerily Burgundian Pinots.’ James Halliday.
