About This Vineyard

In a glorious traditional 13th century vaulted cellar in a village just above the town of Lons-le-Saunier, the Pignier family are very quietly adapting and improving their very traditional range to appeal to a wider market. The determined Antoine Pignier managed to win around his brother Jean-Etienne and sister Florence to convert to biodynamic methods, and since 2006 their entire 15ha domaine has been certified by Demeter.

Methods in the cellar are traditional with very low levels of SO2 used. Notable amongst their range is Chardonnay La Percenette, the first of their organic whites to be made in a non-oxidative method. With each vintage this delicious, steely Chardonnay seems to reach greater heights. Since the 2006 vintage it has been joined by a non-oxidative Savagnin named Sauvegeon. Until recently light reds typical of the region were made, but in the last few vintages a deeper, brighter fruit has been evident. There is excellent Vin Jaune and Vin de Paille.
