The Tablas Creek Vineyard Côtes de Tablas is a blend of four estate-grown Rhône varietals: Grenache, Syrah, Counoise and Mourvèdre. Like most wines of the Southern Rhône, it is a blend of varietals, featuring the fruit and spice of Grenache balanced by the spice and mineral of Syrah, the appealing briary wildness of Counoise, and the structure of Mourvèdre. The 2009 Côtes de Tablas shows a rich, minty nose with dark chocolate, cherry, leather, licorice and crushed rock. The mouth explodes with dark cherry, with nice chalky Grenache tannins giving firmness. The very long finish lingers with flavors of licorice, spice and cherry liqueur. Our most concentrated Cotes de Tablas ever; it should drink well young but also cellar happily for a decade. Food Pairings: Grilled steaks, pastas with meat sauces, rich beef stews, spicy sausages.

£14.22 2011 Quite light. Not very serious since it starts out being very fruity. But then it moves on to give that classic Piedmont depth; this is true especially after its left open for a while/day. Overall its too (in a strange way) fruity for me. Perhaps the 2 rating is a bit harsh but not by much; I think I can find much better.

Tasted at Prince Wine Store (South Melbourne (RP AUD$120).
Clear, pale lemon colour. A clean nose, med+ intensity aromas of almond, white peach and nectarine. A dry, med+ bodied white wine with a smooth velvety texture, zesty and carrying more weight than a typical chardonnay. A well-balanced wine with appropriate amount of fruity acidity. Fleshy fruit flavours of peach and honeyed spices. Nice finish. Drink now – 2017. 92/100.

This wine was made under the supervision of Harald Junglen of Weingut Ackermann. He has been making Riesling in the middle Mosel for years, and Weingut Ackermann is a family-owned winery for many generations.
With Harald's guidance and expertise, wine maker Barnaby Tuttle was able to capture the true style and essence of a German Riesling. Even though the fruit was grown in clay, and not slate- this Riesling has that petrol quality on the nose and lively tart zing with the right amount of residual sugar to balance it out.
This '09 Riesling was listed as NW Palate's Magazine top wines for 2010.
