About This Vineyard

The young Etienne Grivot, who now runs his father’s estate, is one of Burgundy’s promising talents. The estate is blessed with a number of parcels of exceptionally good land – 25 acres in all. He has 4.5 acres of Clos de Vougeot and nearly 10 of Vosne Romanee, including 2.3 in the excellent Premier Cru, Beaumonts. He also has bits of Suchots and Brulees, which are sandwiched between the Grand Crus Richebourg and Echezeaux, as well as five acres of Nuits Premier Cru and 1.5 acres of Chambolle-Musigny. Grivot believes in dense planting for small crops. The emphasis is on full, rich organic Pinot Noir fruit. He likes ripe wines without ‘brutality’ but with bouquet. rating: 95. Clos de Vougeot is a full, powerful wine. It is robust when young and needs to be given time to mature and develop finesse and elegance. wine usually needs 10 years to open. When it is mature it is a generous, velvety wine, full of truffles and scents of violets.

Vinous / Antonio Galloni rating: 94. This renowned premier cru lies between grands crus Echezeaux and Romanee-St-Vivant and its terroir is also close to latter. It is always one of Domaine Jean Grivot's vinest wines and combines fragrant, spicy softness with a good structure and lovely lengthy on palate. This wine can age for 20 years, but is best when left to develop for at least 10.

Vinous / Antonio Galloni rating: 95. A rich, full wine with exquisite scents of red fruits and exotic spices. It is no wonder this is one of most famous Vosne premier crus. Its velvety roundness makes it charming early on but its natural balance will also ensure good cellaring potential.
