About This Vineyard
Located at the heart of the Entre Deux Mers region Chateau Ferran has been in production since 1976. The twenty years of hands on experience has been invaluable in developing and honing a real understanding of the vineyard and the soil. Chateau Ferran is 20 hectares of organic vines surrounded with 6 hectares of woods and wild ground. The organic Sauvignon grapes thrive in the clay-limestone soil and the Semillon and Muscadelle, grown in clay, produce a great flavour in the fruit, with the Muscadelle producing a world of delicate aromas.
For the reds, the grape varities used are Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Chateau Ferran was certified AB (Organic) in 2004 (for the 2003 vintage) and Alain and Beatrice the owners are now working towards Biodynamic certification. All of Alain’s efforts are aimed at maintaining and stimulating the microbiology of the soil, because a soil that functions well is the best guarantee against plant based deficiencies. Both Alain and Beatrice respect their environment and are keen to maintain as large a diversity of wildlife as possible on their domain.
