About This Vineyard

The hamlet of Mounissens is in the first hills of the village of St. Pierre d’Aurillac – Gironde, the clay-limestone, sandstone of the Agen naturally drained by the North-South gradient. The vines are grown on soil which is mostly clay and gravel, on the highest hills overlooking the village. The way the slopes are situated plunging down to the Garonne promotes good protection from spring frosts, from the North North, and provides both good irrigation and good drainage. The unique climate of late summer – morning fog and afternoon sun – allows the appearance of Botrytis cinerea, which gave rise to the appellation Cotes de Bordeaux Saint-Macaire sweet white wines. Our organic red wines are entitled to the appellation Bordeaux Superieur Red although we have left the appellation system and now sell the wines as ‘vin de table’. This gives us more flexibility to create the style of wines we want without being restricted to the exact recipes of the appellation.
