About This Vineyard

The Domaine du Clos des Epeneaux of Comte Armand has been producing some of the most exciting wines in the Côte de Beaune since the mid 1980’s when the then young and talented Pascal Marchand was brought aboard as winemaker. After he was seduced away to head up the brand new, Boisset financed Domaine de la Vougeraie in 1999, the domaine lucked into another very young, very talented winemaker, Benjamin Leroux, who has taken the quality to even greater heights.

Clos des Epeneaux is a monopole of roughly 13 acres, rather large by Burgundian standards. There are plenty of variations in a vineyard this size and the different blocks of vines of various ages and from different soils are vinified separately. This allows Benjamin to decide on a final blend for the grand vin. What doesn’t make the cut may go into a Pommard 1er cru or simply Pommard bottling. Always a difficult wine to drink in its youth, Clos des Epeneaux can be magical and will certainly reward those with enough patience to allow it to sleep for 15+ years.
