About This Vineyard
Bernard Bouyssou applied for organic certification in 1987 after many years of thought, but deemed biodynamics too much of a step to make straightaway with so much land to farm. However, he went to visit two Bordeaux growers, Michel Favard of Château Meylet in St-Emilion and Paul Barre of Château La Grave in Fronsac to get a better idea, and by 1992 was Demeter Biodynamic-Certified, having spent three years learning the method from Bouchet. He says: I saw the differences Biodynamics had made to the soils in those Bordeaux vineyards and that convinced me. Even though both Michel and Paul’s vineyards both had clay-rich soils, which can be heavy, their soils seemed to have no trouble breathing.
