About This Vineyard

Le Domaine des Savarines is situated on a stony, arid plateau – les causses – above the river Lot, in South West France. Les Savarines consists of 7 vineyard parcels (4 ½ hectares in total) set in 20 hectares of wild oak woodland and steep, stony garrigue. Our grape varieties are 20 % Merlot and 80% Malbec (know also as Cot or Auxérois), our organic vines are 25 to 30 years old and our soil type is limestone and marl.

Our grapes are grown without the use of chemical sprays and all work in the vineyard and the cellar is done in harmony with lunar cycles and planetary rhythms. Our organic wine is made using only the natural yeasts on the bloom of the grapes, so we don’t have to add synthetic yeast cultures. The use of sulphur during winemaking is limited.
